Release and Renew Your Ethernet Adapter
for Windows 95 and Windows 98
After you set up an Internet account with Off Campus Telecommunications,
you will need to "release and renew" your ethernet card card.
To release and renew the ethernet or other adapter, follow the steps below starting no sooner than 30 minutes after your account is initially set up:
- Click the "Start" button (lower left corner of your screen).
- Click on "Run."
- The Run box will pop up. In the "Open" window, type: winipcfg and click OK.
- An IP Configuration window should pop up.
- At the top of the box is a drop down list box. Click the down arrow at the right of this box and select your ethernet card.
- Below the box, the "Adapter Address" is the MAC address of your ethernet card. (See example above.)
- The IP address will normally show 10.2.x.x.
- At the bottom of the IP Configuration box are two rows of buttons. The buttons on the top row are: "OK," "Release," and "Renew."
- Starting no sooner than 30 minutes after your account is set up, click the "Release" button. Normally, the IP address will change to 0.0.0.0.
- Now click the "Renew" button. If our system has updated with your MAC address, the IP address will change to 10.1.x.x.
- If the IP address remains at 10.2.x.x, our system has not yet updated and does not recognized your MAC address. Release and renew again every 30 minutes until you get an IP Address of 10.1.x.x.
- Once you get the 10.1.xx.xxx IP address, you can close the box by clicking "OK," open your Internet browser and surf!
