"Release and Renew Your Ethernet Adapter"
for Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows XP
After you set up an Internet account with Off Campus Telecommunications,
you will need to "release and renew" your ethernet card card or reboot your computer.
Follow the steps below starting no sooner than 30 minutes after your O.C.T. Internet account is initially set up:
- Click on the Start button (lower left corner of the screen).
- Click on Run and type in cmd.
- This will bring up a DOS window; your cursor will be at a command prompt.
- At the command prompt type ipconfig   /all; press the Enter key.
- This will list the installed adapters.
- Note which one is your ethernet adapter (such as 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 PIC NIC).
- Note the physical address such as 00-01-23-4A-BC-5D and the IP Address such as 10.2.12.123 of your ethernet adapter.
- Type ipconfig   /release. (Some computers may require you to enter a parameter.
A message should indicate what parameter to use.)
- Type ipconfig   /renew . (Some computers may require you to enter a parameter.
A message should inciate what parameter to use.)
- Again type ipconfig   /all.
- If the system has updated, the IP Address will have changed to 10.1.xx.xx.
- Type exit.
- You can now open Internet Explorer and surf!
